Chapter 4

Saffron's Seer

Rayne stood atop a Lapras, her face mask a deep blue, her clothing a charcoal gray and blue. She was leaving a waterfall, and she didn't turn back, although the people calling her name was completely audible in the background. Everything blurred, and then shifted. Instead of Rayne, there was Celeste, and instead of Lapras, there was a Dragonair. She was atop the Pokemon, swimming under the sea, toward a cavern. Anger was in her eyes, mostly toward herself than anyone else.. everything blurred once more... Scott opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was his beautiful Gardevoir, her eyes filled with concern, having seen all he had seen. She asked psychically if he was alright. He didn't answer, but looked past her to the Pokemon Gym Doors. "They're coming."

Adrian

"Saffron City! Finally!!" Sean yelled, running past the city limits sign. Celeste rolled her eyes while Ariel and Nonan laughed at Sean. Celeste decided to be nice and not comment on her suspicions just yet. She'd wait and see awhile first, just to be sure. "Alright, well I think we should find the Pokemon Gy--" Ariel was cut off by barking. They all turned to see a dog type Pokemon running away from what looked like a huge wrestler with more arms than it should have. The dog ran right into Nonan's arms, shuddering, obviously afraid of its predator. The other Pokemon kept coming. No one had real time to react, but a huge green dragon Pokemon got in the way and took the multi-armed Pokemon's impact. "Good job Flygon, now get it out of here." The Dragon named Flygon span and smack the multi-armed Pokemon was thrown back, very far away into the distance, and it did not get back up. Flygon then turned toward where her master was, his back to the group. The dog Pokemon was still in Nonan's arms.

The trainer of Flygon returned her, and then turned to face them, and Celeste froze. She couldn't believe this was happening to her. "Hey, if you're gonna catch that Growlithe, better do it now while it's scared and eager to trust someone," the trainer said, crossing his arms and tilting his head slightly. Nonan didn't waste time. He took out a Pokeball and caught Growlithe quickly. The Dog stayed in the ball, eager for safety. Now they all turned on the trainer. "Who are you?" Sean spoke, his voice cold. Celeste noted that but said nothing. "The name's Adrian," the trainer bowed slightly, making Nonan whisper a joke to Ariel that Celeste couldn't hear. "I'm.. obviously a trainer. And you four are?" "I'm Sean, the one who caught Growlithe is Nonan, the one next to him is Ariel, and this one's --" "Celeste," she spoke without thinking. Adrian's eyes settled on her, and a recognition seemed to dawn on him. She shifted her head so that her hair obscured her features some, and crossed her arms. Her voice was cold when she spoke. "What kind of trainer with something as powerful as a Flygon sticks around here? Shouldn't you be facing the Elite Four, or even facing the Frontier Brains?"

Adrain didn't answer. Instead, he looked at Sean, and smiled a smile that held no humor. "Have you people ever heard of the Chosen Ones?" Celeste shut her eyes briefly and wished she hadn't gone on this stupid journey to get Gym Badges. Sean replied first, "It's just a legend." "A legend? I've never heard of this legend," Ariel said, obviously curious on what it could be of. Nonan was zoning out, legends and stories weren't his thing. "Yes.. a legend that's real," Adrian said, his eyes flickering toward Celeste and then back to the others. "Oh please, that's a bunch of bullshit," Sean grumbled, but Ariel asked Adrian for the legend, so Adrian told it. "It's said that there are four people who have special powers," he began, a sly smile playing on his face, "Those powers help them tame the most powerful Pokemon on the planet, known as the legendary Pokemon, such as Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, etc. And well, I forget the rest. But supposedly they can control the Mother of all Pokemon only by working together." "Where can we read the original legend?" Ariel asked, writing down what Adrian had said. "Well.. in Canalave City, in the Sinnoh region. But hey this city has a seer, why not go visit him?" "What do you mean?" Sean asked slowly. "The Gym Leader of Saffron City? He's a Psychic user. And he's Sabrina's little brother. He can see visions. Go see him. I'm sure he'll tell you what he knows." Sean and Ariel turned to Celeste. Ariel wanted to go. Sean didn't -- or at least it seemed like he didn't. Nonan was zoned out, too busy with his headphones in his ears and thinking about his new Pyro dog to care what they did. Celeste looked at Sean in the eyes and saw that spark of excitement he always used to have when going on an impossible mission. She took in a deep breath and let it out in sigh. "To the Pokemon Gym it is."

Saffron's Gym

"I don't know if we can trust this guy, Celeste," Sean whispered under his breath to Celeste as they walked to the gym, Adrian walking ahead with Nonan and Ariel, joking around. "And I don't think I can trust you, Sean," Celeste answered her eyes forward, her face revealing nothing. Sean stayed quiet but Celeste continued, " However that's a talk for another day. I know we can't trust Adrian but I want to know what he's doing here and why he isn't elsewhere." "He's very strong." "I know he is. I've seen it." "...But we just met him today." Celeste didn't reply.

"Well, here's the gym," Ariel stated the obvious. Adrian opened the door and held it open for them to enter. They entered one by one, Celeste pausing to look Adrian in the eyes. He held her gaze, his face still holding that playful look that it had with Nonan and Ariel. "After you," he said calmly. She didn't budge. His face changed from playful to serious, and Celeste suddenly looked forward and began walking. "Wait.." Adrian said, grabbing hold of her wrist. She pulled away and whipped around to face him, her hand automatically reaching for a Pokeball and sending out Eevee. Adrian stared at Eevee and then back at Celeste, interest all over his face. "Don't touch me again," Celeste said dangerously calm. "Hey what's the hold up?" Ariel's voice came from a hallway past the lobby of the gym. Celeste turned away and motioned for Eevee to follow, then heading for Ariel's voice. Adrian smiled and followed.

They entered the arena of the gym, and in the arena was nothing but a trainer with his arms crossed. On his face was a look that stated that he had been expecting them. "Welcome, Celeste, Sean, Nonan, Ariel, Adrian and Eevee." He nodded his head slightly in greeting. "My name's Scott, Sabrina's little sister. I'm in charge of the gym while she's off with her boyfriend Lucian in the Sinnoh region. I understand that you're here for a clearing on a prophecy." It wasn't a question but Nonan being Nonan answered anyway. "No shit sherlock! Tell us what you know about the Chosen Fools or whatever." "Four," Ariel corrected automatically. "Yeah four!" Nonan amended. "I'm afraid I cannot do that," Scott said, a smile playing his lips. "Why the fuck not?" Nonan growled, his eyes narrowing on him, "The sooner we get this bullshit outta the way, the sooner I can go back to my gym battles." "Well you're in luck. I will give you your answer if one of you can defeat me in battle. I will not speak unless someone defeats me. And as well as an answer, I'll give you the gym badge for this gym. However, you can only ever battle me once. Should you lose, you won't ever be able to challenge me again -- not any of you. And you'll never get the prophecy you seek, nor the gym badge." "You're on!" Nonan sent out his new Growlithe and it howled at Scott, "I've got this one."

Scott laughed and shook his head, "No, no. You see.. I get to choose my opponent. Not you." Ariel crossed her arms and glared, "That's not fair. If you're a psychic you'll obviously choose the one you can beat." Scott smiled knowingly, "I know." The group -- minus Adrian -- grumbled at Scott and decided to pull a few feet away from both the gym leader and Adrian to talk over their options. "We either battle and win, or battle and lose," Sean said a fire in his eyes, "I say we battle." "He's a psychic. He'll read the thoughts of the person battling or even predict the battle before choosing and he'll pick the one he can beat," Ariel countered. Nonan rolled his eyes, "You guys are just making excuses not to battle!" "We aren't. We're just thinking it over as carefully as possible," Ariel responded calmly. Celeste shook her head, "No. Scott may be a Psychic but he can't predict who'll win. His visions don't work that way. They come to him at random, not by choice. He can communicate telepathically with his Pokemon but nothing more. What he says is just to intimidate his opponets and to get them so nervous before the fight that they either give up or just fail." "You sure know alot about him, Celeste," Sean said solemnly. Celeste shrugged and looked away from Sean toward Adrian. "Let's just say I've actually made use of my time away from home." "That still leaves out who's gonna battle him," Ariel said but Nonan answered rather quickly, "That little shit chooses, remember?" Silence hit the group. "I say we fucking do it," Nonan said, a wicked look in his eyes. Ariel nodded in agreement and Sean did as well. "Let's go then," Celeste said, and they walked back, Nonan leading. "We accept, dipshit! So who ya gonna battle?" Nonan asked.

Scott looked at Nonan for a long while, and then spoke, "Not you." His gaze then went to Ariel, and then to Sean, and finally Celeste. His eyes widened and he pointed at her. "You." "Why does that not surprise me.." she muttered under her breath. Eevee hit her head against the ground beside Celeste. Utter bullpoopie.. Right? But no worries.. we did spy on him for a month without him detecting us, so we'll be okay.. "What are the rules?" Celeste asked automatically walking to a side of the arena. "It'll have to be a single battle only. I'm afraid I'll push you too hard too fast if we try a double battle," Scott tossed out his Pokeball, and his beautiful Gardevoir appeared before him. "Adrian, why don't you referee this battle?" asked Scott politely.

Adrian nodded once. "It'd be my pleasure to watch this battle.." He stood at his position and waited for Celeste to send out her Pokemon. Celeste glanced down at her Eevee and nodded. Eevee took the place before her trainer, and growled lowly at the Gardevoir. Adrian nodded and then addressed the room. "This will be a one on one match. The match will continue until one of the Pokemon can no longer continue to battle, or until a trainer gives up. Death is no option. Referee may stop the battle if they see there is no point in continuing. The battle will commence now!" Gardevoir attacked on its own, without a command, charging up what seemed to be a big ball of energy between its hands. What the fuck?! It's owner didn't even command it to do anything! It can't do that. "Dodge!" Eevee tried to dodge, but Gardevoir had started the attack with perfect timing so that Eevee couldn't dodge it. "Mother fucking fuck face!" Celeste shut her eyes and spoke frantically to her Eevee mentally. Oh God I'm sorry! Are you okay? Yeah..watch the language. "Watch the language," Adrian said the same time as Eevee, smirking. How the fuc-- Oh shit dodge it! Celeste had gotten distracted by Eevee and didn't notice the Thunder attack that Gardevoir had aimed at Eevee. Eevee -- having had a good enough warning -- dodged it, but barely. Her trainer hasn't even spoken! Eevee, what did we learn when we were watching him all that time ago? He never spoke. And did you ever catch on why? Eevee stayed silent for a moment and automatically dodged Gardevoir's following Energy Ball. They're both Psychics.. Finally. Meaning us talking like this isn't cheating. And it's faster. I'll explain later, for now, get as close as you can and get ready to use Bite. The only dark move I got.. perfect. We got this, now look away! It's going to try and use Hypnosis on you. Sure enough, Gardevoir's eyes had taken on a hypnotic look. For some reason the silent battle enraged Celeste and caused her to yell out to Scott. "Stop being a fucking pussy and speak your damn attacks instead of using telepathy!" Scott laughed at her, "I'm a psychic gym leader. What did you expect? Gardevoir, Shock wave." Dig now! Eevee dug rapidly, but not fast enough. The wave of electricity hit Eevee hard, and she fell back at Celeste's feet. I really hate this guy.. This gives me an idea.. keep digging holes. Everywhere. Connect them to each other like a maze. And create one main spot where you can face all the tunnel entrances. Go! Eevee didn't question and dove back into the earlier hole. Scott's Pokemon didn't know exactly what to do since it was nowhere to be found, or Scott was just bidding his time. It's too much work for just me! Use Double Team then. Eevee didn't reply and Celeste hoped that meant that she was doing it. After awhile, Scott seemed to get irritated. "What did you give up?! Get your damn Eevee out!" Celeste smiled, "If you say so.." Done! Celeste commanded the rest of the plan to Eevee mentally, and soon all the Double Teamed Eevee dashed out of those holes that circled Gardevoir. Scott's Psychic Pokemon was confused at whom to attack and that hesitation was exactly what Eevee needed. It dug right beneath Gardevoir, causing the ground under its feet to crumble and fall. Gardevoir fell, and Eevee bit hard. Use Shadow Ball now! DO NOT LET GO! A dark sphere emerged from Eevee's mouth, hitting Gardevoir hard and throwing it forward, and Eevee along with it, not letting go. Quick let go and back into the holes! All the Eevee -- fakes and real -- retreated into the tunnels. Gardevoir slowly got up, and closed her eyes momentarily, before opening them. Celeste assessed the situation. It hadn't healed, so it wasn't recover..what could it have.. We end this now. How? Using that move that'll show how close we are. ......Is that wise? No. But it's what we got. They'll know it's you. Adrian probably already knows. Sean will investigate further and we don't slip up afterward. What will you do if Adrian tries to use you? Celeste looked at Adrian at this point and shook her head. His eyes showed bewilderment, and he tiled his head slightly, like he always would when he confused her. "He won't," she said softly and then focused back on the battle. "Use Return, now!" *Eevee darted out, and hit Gardevoir full force, using the move Return which -- depending on how much the Pokemon was happy with its trainer -- knocked Gardevoir to the ground.* She did not get up.

Adrian waited a full 10 seconds before calling the match. "The winner is Eevee and her trainer, R-- Celeste! They've won the Marsh Badge!"

Celeste's eyes darted to Adrian and then to her Eevee who ran at her, happy to have won the match. Scott returned his Gardevoir and walked to Celeste, reaching into his pocket and pulling out the Gym badge at the same time. He placed it in the palm of her hand, and his fingers lightly pressed against her palm, when it happened. He stilled, and she stilled as well. His eyes went blank, and soon Celeste's did too. Sean, Ariel and Nonan darted forward, and Eevee frantically pawed at her trainer, trying to speak to her telepathically, but getting no response. Soon, both Scott and Celeste fell over, unconscious. "Adrian, call the ambu--" Sean stopped talking when he turned to see Adrian was gone. Growling lowly, Sean pulled out his cell phone and called someone, walking a few feet away leaving Ariel and Nonan to tend to the two passed out on the floor. The person on the other line picked up. "Josh here." "Hello Josh, tell Nano to prepare the Rocket Game Corner. And send over a helicopter that can pick us up at the roof of Saffron City's Gym." "But..Sean--" "Yeah, I know. Sooner that I expected as well. Hurry Josh. Things got complicated." He paused and turned to look back at Celeste lying on the ground. "They're after her."

*The move Return is a hard one to write out. So I did the best I could. If you've played the games you know that it hits hard and strong if the Pokemon loves you enough, and Eevee does love my character alot, and that will be revealed later on why, for now..deal with my horrid writing.*
