Chapter 1

The Start Of A New Journey

The sun rose slowly and steadily over the quiet, drowsy town of Pallet. The Pidgey and Rattata were beginning to awaken and begin their day. The people themselves began to awaken and either drive to the nearby city of Viridian for work, or begin to work in local shops there. There was none more alert than Professor Oak, who had been up since before the sun rose, getting the starter Pokemon ready for the trainers coming today to pick them up. He grunted as he lifted a heavy box and shelved it, wiping the sweat beading at his forehead. "I'm way to old to be doing this.." he murmured to himself as he walked over to a playpen. In the pen there were four Pokemon: Bulbasaur -- the grass type, Squirtle -- the water type, and Charmander -- the fire type. Those three were the original starters for Pallet Town. The last Pokemon was not an original starter. It was a Pokemon that would chose its trainer, not the other way around. And so far not a single trainer had met that Pokemon's standards, and Professor Oak began to believe that it was looking for a trainer with previous experience.

There was a pounding at his door, and the Professor made his way to it. He opened it and revealed three young teenagers standing there. One a boy, the others girls One of the girls had her back to him, an Eevee standing close beside her. The other two had been the source of the pounding. "Hello Professor! Nonan and I are here for our Pokemon," the other girl said eagerly, a light fire burning in her eyes. "Yeah, can we do this fast? No offense to anyone but this town is boring.." the boy, Nonan, yawned and leaned against the door frame. "Not only that, but I want to beat Celeste since she started training Pokemon way before us." "The only reason she had to do that was to survive on her own, you know that, Nonan," Ariel said, defending her friend. "Yeah? Well, whoop-dee-doo. She skips out on us for 4 years and comes back when she's nearly legal, what type of shit is that?" "Language, Nonan. You may now be of age, but that doesn't mean you can use vulgar language in front of your elders. Now come in, come in!" With that Professor Oak stepped back and allowed them to enter, however Celeste hesitated a moment before entering in after them.

They were carrying backpacks with them since they were going to leave for their journey as soon as they received their Pokemon, so they set them down beside the playpen as Ariel and Nonan went crazy over the potential starters. "Woah! These are the Pokemon we can choose from?" Ariel asked ecstatically, her eyes shifting over the three original starters which had run up to the side of the playpen in order to be seen. "Yes they are. Ignore that purple one over there. That one is a special case.." Professor Oak grew quiet since neither Nonan nor Ariel were listening anymore. They were too focused on who to pick.

"Ooh! Look at the Bulbasaur! I so want that one."

"Go ahead and take that one, I call Squirtle, that one's gonna be so bad ass later."

Eevee ran from Celeste's side, who was standing nearby, and jumped into the playpen. Eevee began to paw at Charmander's flamed tail and played with the other Pokemon. The purple Pokemon in the corner however, stayed put, still asleep as though there wasn't a commotion going on. Nonan noticed Eevee and then turned to face Celeste. "Really?! Ever since you got back from your 4 year disappearance last week you've been this way. It's happy days! Team Rocket and Team Aqua are finally disbanded, we -- as in me and Ariel since you have a Pokemon already -- are finally trainers! We can go out and destroy Teams Magma and Galactic and make the world safe! Lighten up would ya?" Celeste shrugged her shoulders and smiled slightly. "I suppose I could lighten up a bit." She glanced at her Eevee who was beginning to start a fight with Charmander, and walked over to return Eevee to his respective ball. When she reached the edge of the playpen, the purple Pokemon in the corner reared her head and stared at Celeste as she returned Eevee to his ball. "Anyhow, Ariel, you've decided with Bulbasaur have you? And Nonan you want Squirtle?" inquired the Professor. Both nodded and Professor Oak turned away to get the right devices that all three trainers needed. "Alright now, Celeste since you're finally of age as well, I will register the three of you to go out and try your luck for the Pokemon League.." They all walked off into a different room, leaving the purple Pokemon to crawl over to the edge of the pen and try to climb over it.

"Now, the whole point is to go around and get 8 Gym badges. Since you all decided to wait until you were all 16 years old," Professor Oak glanced at Ariel, "You can go out and get any 8 Gym badges from any region. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn or Sinnoh, it doesn't matter." He handed them each a red Pokedex and told them all they needed to know about it, before handing them each 10 Pokeballs. "Now remember, you can only carry 6 Pokemon with you at once. The only reason you have 10 empty Pokeballs now is so that you have enough to catch the rest of your team, and then some. Just be wise on whom you decide to keep with you." There was a loud thump heard from the other room and they all ran over to see what had caused it. The only thing they noticed different was that Celeste's backpack was knocked over. "Well.. now that that's over and done with, I have nothing else to give nor say. Just be careful on your journey."

Stowaway

"So.. which way are we heading?" Nonan asked as they continued walking down the dirt road, Pallet Town just a barely viewable from behind them. "Well, let's just got to Viridan and get some information there on all the regions and decide then what we should do," Ariel suggested. "Good idea," murmured Celeste, shifting her backpack which seemed to feel a lot heavier than before, "Viridian has an epic library where we can research just about everything we need to about any regions in the Pokemon world. It's the best we got." "Goddamn.. you girls and your reading.." Nonan yawned. A small voice was suddenly heard in Celeste's mind. I wonder where we're going! Celeste, blinked and looked around. Ariel and Nonan were talking to each other, and evidentially hadn't heard the voice. She knew what this meant, but couldn't recognize the voice in her head. I don't know who you are.. you don't sound like Eevee. I'm not Eevee! I'm Dratini. I was in that old man's playpen with the others, remember? Celeste stopped walking and placed her backpack on the ground. Ariel and Nonan stopped as well. "What's going on Celeste?" Ariel asked, concern lacing her voice. "We have a stowaway," Celeste opened her backpack and the little purple Pokemon, Dratini, came out. "The genius decided to speak to me.." Celeste bit her lower lip and glanced back. They had already gone a long way and didn't really want to go back to Pallet. Ariel could tell what Celeste was thinking. "So we'll just have to make it to Viridian and call Professor Oak to let him know." Celeste nodded and took out a Pokeball, capturing Dratini with it and pocketed her. "$10 says I get accused of robbery."

Viridian City

"Ah, so that's where Dratini went. Well, no problem. Keep him. He's obviously taken a liking to you." "Keep him?! He's a dragon. Do you know how hard those are to raise? Let alone feed!" Celeste exclaimed, taken aback. "Celeste, you can handle this. I have faith in you." Professor Oak hung up, leaving a fuming Celeste. She walked back to where Nonan and Ariel were, and sat beside Ariel. "Okay so I'm stuck with a Dratini." "That can't be too bad. They're really great Pokemon." "Yeah.. I guess.. I guess I just wasn't expecting this. Ya know?" "Yeah, yeah, stop your yammering and let's go eat already," Nonan interrupted.

They stopped by a fast food restaurant and took their meal to go, because -- luckily for them -- the library they were heading to allowed food inside. They entered and began to flip through countless books with maps of all four regions in them, as well as Pokemon available in each. Ariel was fascinated by the regions itself, Celeste was focused on the Pokemon available, while Nonan.. focused on catching some sleep. After they took as many notes as possible, they decided to humor Nonan and go visit the local Gym.

The Viridian Gym however...

"IT'S ABANDONED?! WHO ABANDONS A GYM?!" Nonan exclaimed, throwing a rock at the already broken windows. "Bullshit! If this was my gym I'd be kicking asses left and right!" "We GET it, Nonan," Ariel rolled her eyes and began to walk back the way they came, except her mind was on the library. "You know, the gym leader is still alive." Ariel, Nonan and Celeste looked around for the voice, and Nonan was the one to spot the speaker. He was on the rooftop of the Gym, sitting cross-legged staring down at the three. "Everyone thinks he's dead, but honestly, he's alive. Just...hiding. Training if you will. This Gym used to belong to Team Rocket too." The boy, no older than Nonan (17) jumped down and landed carefully in front of them. "You guys seem tough, how about a battle?" Before either girls could respond, Nonan raced forward and tossed out Squirtle. "You're so on." The boy smiled and sent out his own Pokemon and cried out an attack at the same time. "Psyduck use confusion!" A yellow duck like Pokemon squawked as it appeared and used its confusion attack on Squirtle, both Pokemon's eyes glowing red momentarily before Squirtle suddenly doubled up in pain. "Wha?! That's not fair I so wasn't ready! Squirtle use tackle now!" Squirtle charged at Psyduck, but the yellow Pokemon dodged quickly. "Water Gun!" Psyduck squirted out a jet of water at Squirtle, knocking it back against a tree. Squirtle did not get back up. "Dammit!" Nonan ran to his Pokemon and returned it to its ball.

The boy smiled and returned his own Pokemon, glancing at Ariel and Celeste. "Either one of you wish to take me on?" Ariel glanced at Celeste, who shrugged. "You first." Ariel nodded and stepped forward, sending out her Bulbasaur. "Let's see what else you can do." The boy nodded and sent out his second Pokemon, Nidorino. "Ladies first." Nonan grumbled something under his breath that sounded a lot like "Jackass" which made Celeste give him a disapproving look. "Bulbasaur, use tackle!" Bulbasaur ran at the Nidorino, who stood still and let Bulbasaur hit him... right on his poisonous horn. Bulbasaur took a few steps back and fell over, the poison consuming it. "What?!" Ariel ran forward as did her opponent with an injection in his hand. Ariel bit at her lower lip as the boy injected Bulbasaur with the Antidote. "Return it to your ball. It'll be alright after some rest."

Ariel returned Bulbasaur as instructed. "That was... pretty bad." She glanced to Celeste. "You gonna try?" Celeste hesitated and nodded. "I want to see what my new Pokemon can do." She stepped forward as Ariel stepped back. The boy, cocky by now, tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. "Really think you can do much better than your friends?" "I don't think. I know." Celeste tossed her Pokeball into the air, and it released Dratini. "Mmkay, hit me with your best shot." The boy assessed the Pokemon before him and sent out his Skarmory. Ariel and Nonan stared. "Aren't those only available in Johto...?" "They are. But this trainer has been there, and has been in tons of other battles. Seeing that his Skarmory has chips in its steel wings.." Celeste trailed off and shifted her gaze to the trainer. She couldn't help but feel that she had met him before. She didn't have a chance to think any further into it.

"Steel wing!" Skarmory took into the sky and charged at Dratini, its wings outstretched, ready to hit Dratini full force. Wait wha?! A battle?! I haven't battled in months! Do you remember what you know?! Dratini dodged Skarmory before replying mentally to Celeste. Dragon Rage, Slam, Wrap, Twister... "Dratini use Dragon Rage!" Dratini swiveled around and shot out a purplish flame at Skarmory, hitting hits left wing. "Dammit. Skarmory pull up and stay out of range." "Dratini, use Twister and make it as high as you can!" Dratini began to slither in a circle in an unnatural speed, creating a Twister that grew bigger by the second. "Fly higher!" Skarmory attempted to do so, but was being sucked in to the twister rapidly. "Once it's near you use Wrap to keep it close, and then use Dragon Rage full blast!" Skarmory was getting closer and closer to Dratini by the second, and soon enough, Dratini's tail wrapped around the injured left wing, adding insult to injury, and pulled it down to the ground. The purple Dragon began to charge up its Dragon Rage, when Skarmory disappeared. Dratini blinked and looked around, so did Celeste. The boy had returned his Pokemon, a cell phone to his ear. "Yes. I get that vibe. I'll be right there." The boy hung up and glanced apologetically at Celeste. "Something urgent has come up with.. family. I'll be seeing you three around." With that the boy sent out Skarmory once more and jumped onto it, and it took to the air, and faded into the sky.

"......He left mid battle..." Celeste glared after him. "The next time I meet him. He's so dead."

Team Rocket Hideout -- Cerulean City

The Team Rocket Lieutenant arrived rather quickly to the hideout. He not only had to calm the organization that he was taking over momentarily, but had to pass on information he had just learned of. His Skarmory landed lightly on the rooftop of their hideout, and jumped off of it rapidly, and returned it. He took off the clothes he wore over his uniform and made his way to the meeting room. The moment he entered, all went quiet. They stared at him, awaiting orders, when one spoke out. "What do we do now..?" The Lieutenant smiled kindly and admitted. "We wait."

"Wait?! We WAIT?!"

"That's an outrage!"

"We need YOU to take over and lead us, Lut. Nano!"

"Well then LISTEN ," Nano's voice rose. The room fell silent. "We wait. We wait for.. orders. Do not ask from whom. We also wait for the Chosen 4 to reveal themselves, and we wait for Team Aqua's Lut to contact us." "And if they don't?" Nano stared at the individual who spoke out. "Then it's up to us to find the Chosen, and help them." His mind wandered back to the three Trainers he battled. The last one, the one with Dratini seemed vaguely familiar to him. The method in which she battled, the fact that her Pokemon and herself always seemed to be synced together, reminded him of someone he knew once before..

"And I think I may have found one of the Chosen."

  1. I like the beginning of this. It feels nice and rapid, without going too fast. And I really like Nonan and Celeste.

Keep up the good work! ^_^
